 Qualifications:
 An adult education instructor is required to have a Bachelor’s degree and must be
 willing to attain and keep current certifications required by the Virginia Department of
 Education, Office of Career, Technical and Adult Education.  An instructor will need to
 be aware of the College and Career Standards-based on Content Standards for Adult
 Education, provide instruction that correlates with the standards, and prepare students
 for the GED Test in Math, Reading & Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies.
 Having experience teaching adult learners is preferred. Participation in professional
 development and staff meetings will be required.  Instructors are expected to monitor
 their students, use different methods of teaching to reach varying academic levels and
 keep in contact with students.   Monthly record keeping is required
 Essential Duties:
 Follow facility policies and procedures
 Plan, prepare, and teach well developed lesson plans and inspire students to promote
 learning
 Effectively and appropriately differentiate instruction to meet all students' learning styles
 Select and sequence appropriate materials, resources, and approaches according to
 course/content areas and audience
 Assess, track and provide relevant and timely feedback on achievement to students and
 supervisors
 Accommodate independent study to be completed outside of class
 Write reports on students with clear formative comments and targets as to how to
 improve work by defined deadlines given
 Maintain current lesson plans, assessment data and attendance records
 Complete administrative tasks as defined and by set deadlines
 Induct students appropriately to provide academic advice, counseling, educational
 guidance, and advisory support
 Provide feedback on materials, courses, lessons to academic and other
 supervisors/colleagues as requested
 Attend academic, departmental, and school meetings when required and attend/deliver
 professional development sessions as directed
 Supervise and accompany students on excursions as appropriate Adhere to standards and procedures detailed by supervisor
 Other duties as assigned

 Demonstrates good critical thinking skills to understand student and staff issues
 Experience in developing instruction plans
 Ability to adhere to regulations and standards
 Working knowledge of MS Office
 Excellent organization and time management skills

 Flexible schedule
 BS/BA required
